Harold Baggott drove his first car at just ten years old in 1930 and has now been given the keys to test-drive Ford’s brand new Mustang Mach-E.
Mr Baggott, 101-years-young, and his car-mad great grandchildren took part in specially arranged demonstration with their family long-term Ford fans having owned 20 Fords privately and a fleet of 140 Ford commercial vehicles for their travel and coach business.
Harold himself began the love of Fords way back in 1937 when he paid just £100 for a Ford 8 Popular, and then a Ford Anglia one year later. But it was driving the legendary Ford Model T, in the form of a milk lorry that it all began, and as well as getting the opportunity to test out the Mach-E Harold also got back behind the wheel of a 1915 Model T from the company’s heritage collection.
“Since the age of 10, I’ve retained my interest in motoring and today find myself interested in the switch to electrification following the government phasing out the traditional combustion engines I’m used to,” Mr Baggott said. “I have reminisced about my driving history with the Model T and seen what the future has in store. It was exciting to get behind the wheel of what I expect to see my great grandchildren will be driving.”
The Mach-E is Ford’s first all-electric SUV on sale now, with a maximum electric driving range of 379 miles.
